Conservation Forum - PFAS: The Forever Chemicals - Live Webinar

November 03, 2022 , 9 a.m.-noon

Registration is free and available soon.

PFAS, or per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, are manufactured chemicals that do not break down over time and are detrimental to health and the environment. An expert panel will discuss the imperative to reduce and eventually eliminate the environmental dangers of PFAS that permeate land, water and air. With more than 9,000 classifications, PFAS are present in consumer products such as cookware, cosmetics, food wrappers and water-repellent fabrics. Bioaccumulation of PFAS poses significant adverse health risks, and scientists estimate that PFAS are in the bloodstreams of 98 percent of Americans.

The panel of experts include:

  • Toxicologist Joe DiNardo, Rockbridge Area Conservation Council, will define PFAS and identify product contamination
  • Dr. Bill Mann, Virginia Environmental PFAS Task Force, will address health risks
  • Erin Ling, Senior Water Quality Extension Associate, Dr. Leigh-Anne Krometis, Associate Professor and Katherine Hohweiler, MS Graduate Student, Virginia Tech Biological Systems Engineering and Virginia Household Water Quality Program, will identify toxins in water sources
  • Dr. Robert C. Hale, Professor, Dept. of Aquatic Health Sciences, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, will discuss PFASs’ presence on the farm and in the backyard

The GCV wishes to thank Investment Management of Virginia, for its generous sponsorship of the 2022 GCV Conservation Forum.
