Corbin Harwood and Anne Beals
Corbin Harwood, winner of the 2014 Elizabeth Cabell Dugdale Award for Meritorious Achievement in Conservation, was born and raised in raised in Halifax, Virginia, where she currently owns farmland on the Staunton River. After graduating from Smith College and Columbia Law School, Corbin, worked at Hogan and Hartson and the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) in Washington, DC. While at ELI she authored “Using Land to Save Energy.”
She left law to obtain a medical degree from Georgetown Medical School. Instead of practicing medicine, she returned home to care for her two children. Soon thereafter, her husband’s career took the family to Brussels, Belgium where they lived for almost four years.
Corbin and her husband John currently live in Washington, DC where she is a Director of the Garden Club of America. Her passionate opposition to uranium mining in Virginia has been the impetus behind her efforts to educate Virginians and to call for action. Corbin was instrumental in helping GCV formulate its position on uranium mining in Virginia
