2012 Dugdale Award winner
On Monday, November 12, 2012, at the Jepson Alumni Center of the University of Richmond, Lynnhaven River Now was awarded the Garden Club of Virginia’s prestigious Elizabeth Cabell Dugdale Award for meritorious achievement in conservation. Karen Forget, Executive Director of Lynnhaven River Now, was in attendance to receive the award at the Garden Club of Virginia’s annual Conservation Forum.
Lynnhaven River Now began with three members in 2002, and now numbers more than 7,000. The organization is dedicated to keeping the Lynnhaven River area in Virginia Beach clean and pristine, bringing awareness to the population about positive things they can do to preserve their natural environment and water quality, from encouraging local oyster farming, to cleaning up after the estimated 6000 pet dogs that live in the area, to instituting a Pearl Homes designation for those who apply good conservation practices where they live.
