The Spotswood Garden Club of Harrisonburg is the winner of the 2003 Common Wealth Award. The club received $4,000, and these funds will be used for the construction of “healing gardens” for Camp Still Meadows. The camp is a non-profit special needs camp for mentally and physically disabled children and adults. The “healing gardens” will be designed as a series of raised permanent stone planting terraces with easily accessible planting areas to allow the campers, including the blind and those in wheelchairs, to experience the joy, the learning, and the restorative benefits of fruit, flower and vegetable gardening.
